My name is Maureen.

I currently live in Eugene, Oregon with my also-vegan husband, Johnny. I grew up mostly in Hawaii – on the island of Kaua’i [Also Guam and Alaska]. I just ended my 10 year stint living in California [LA and San Diego].

I’ve been vegan [for ethical and health purposes] since 2009 – so roughly 8 years now. 2 years ago, after grappling with inflammatory and joint problems for years – and had an acupuncturist and a rheumatologist recommend going gluten free, I finally committed. It was so hard at first. Especially as an avid baker! But once I got past the rough patches, I realized that I felt so much better. My joints were less painful, my gut issues improved, and I felt – well – lighter!

I’ve been cooking and baking since I can remember. I started making up my own recipes and tinkering in the kitchen when I was 7, and had been helping on the kitchen counter as a toddler. I love food. I’m fascinated by more than the flavor; I’m continually interested in the nutritional value and science of food and how it affects your body, leading me to a achieve an AS in Nutrition from Mesa College San Diego.

Working in the natural products industry for the past 3 years, and growing up with herbal remedies and freshly farmed fruit and vegetables has led me to think of health holistically. Treating not just symptoms, but root causes and systemic issues.

I love crafting recipes and sharing – food is love! My food style is fresh – with bold flavors, intriguing textures and combinations – and always gluten free and vegan.
